Origins
In the early days of bubble tea in Taiwan, the take-out beverage market was thriving, with black tapioca pearls as the key ingredient. However, for Western markets, the chewy texture and dark appearance of pearls were difficult to accept, creating a major barrier for bubble tea to expand internationally.



Innovation
In 2004, a team of mechanical engineers set out to overcome this challenge. They successfully developed popping juice ball technology, keeping the familiar round shape while filling it with fruit juice and creating a delightful “burst-in-your-mouth” sensation. This innovation added layers of texture and flavor, bringing consumers a brand-new sensory experience.

By 2005, the team had designed automated production equipment, achieving standardized mass production and paving the way for global commercialization.
Yet, when the product launched in Taiwan in 2007, initial sales were underwhelming, as the market was still unfamiliar with this new type of topping.
Everything changed when the team met Jacky Wang, whose vision and global perspective opened new opportunities.
In 2009, Jacky Wang founded POSSMEI and officially named the product “Popping Boba.” With sharp market insight, he introduced it overseas—first to Europe—where it quickly captured consumer attention. Through strong partnerships with local distributors and brands, Popping Boba established itself as a trendsetting ingredient, redefining beverage experiences worldwide and creating new business models for the industry.

Reinvention
After the pandemic years (2020–2023), consumer behavior shifted, and competition intensified.
In 2024, the POSSMEI team launched a packaging innovation revolution. After nearly a year of development, they unveiled the “Popping Boba Ready-to-Drink” — a refreshing blend of tea, juice, and Popping Boba that delivers an instant open-and-enjoy experience.

A New Chapter
In 2025, this ready-to-drink line officially launched, marking a new era for the Popping Jacky brand.
The name Popping Jacky honors Chairman Jacky Wang, whose dedication and vision brought Popping Boba to the world stage. It reflects not only the playful sound and joyful experience of the product but also the legendary journey of taking Taiwanese bubble tea culture global.
2025
From 2010 onward, Popping Boba spread rapidly to North America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, mixing in teas, desserts, and frozen treats. By 2012, the German market saw explosive growth, inspiring nearby countries to follow. Many international clients even traveled to Taiwan to collaborate with POSSMEI in opening bubble tea shops. Today, POSSMEI has supported the establishment of Taiwanese tea shops in nearly 100 countries worldwide.
Bubble tea soon became a global sensation and a favorite drink among young people everywhere—turning into a source of pride for Taiwan and a symbol of its vibrant food culture.
